Packard Bell Easynote BG45-U-300 Hard drive removal
I’ve been asked how to replace the hard drive in an Easynote BG45-U-300 so here is a quick guide that I have put together. Remember to re-install your operating system on the new hard drive you will need an external USB DVD drive. Also if you haven’t created restore DVDs yet you better get on that because you will need them if you don’t have another copy of Vista installation media.
Step 1
Remove battery and locate the screws circled below
Step 2
Remove the 3 screws with a small Philips head screw drivier

Step 3
Next use a flat head screw driver to lift the cover

Step 4
Lift the cover off by squeezing your finger in. Don’t be afraid to give it a good yank its quite stiff

Step 5
OK you are in. Ease the hard disk out by pulling on the tab.

Step 6
Once the drive is out you will see the power connector and SATA II connector take note of which way these go round.

Step 7
Remove the drive from the internal caddie by unscrewing the 2 screws on each side.

Step 8
Replace the old drive with your new one, screw it back into the caddie and then slide it back into the laptop. Its a little fiddly popping it back in so take care and be patient don’t force it in.
There! I hope this helps. Replace the cover and screw it up! That’s it. Hard drive replaced.

Absolutely brilliant! Just what I needed, should be a doddle really, I’m thinking maybe a 320Gb HDD they’re going for only around £50 so not too bad. Just one last question, could I ask how you went about copying the recovery sector containing Vista to an external and then back, because as you know without a disc drive its a bit more tricky.
Thanks again for your helpQ

No worries Peter, happy to help.
Its easy to create the restore DVD’s and should be in your manual how to do it. Make sure you back up your user data!

Hi Matt,
Do you know of any battery life benefits with SSD?
I currently get at best 2 hours from the standard battery, maybe an extra ten minutes with some tweaking.

Off topic - do you have a link to a pdf of the user manual, this is by far the best resource i have found for the bg45. i love my little laptop to bits but its starting to haul ass now so upgrading is needed. this is the definitive place ive found for advice.
cheers.
