Upgrading the RAM on the Packard Bell BG45-U-300
In this video I show you how to upgrade the ram on the Packard Bell BG45-U-300 it comes standard with 1GB of ram but that’s not enough for a happy (if there is such a thing) VISTA experience.
To make things easier I recommend having a philips (cross threaded) and a flat screw driver to hand.
Any questions just ask…

Very helpful, Just acquired one of these little PCs. Seems great even before RAM upgrade. However, one thing is that the Webcam seems totally nonfuctional. i am not clear whether it is defective or I am missing something obvious, e.g. How does one turn it on? I have notice various queries scattered aropund the Web Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Have you tried just typing in ‘Scanners and Cameras’ in the search box? Have you tried to install Skype or MSN Messenger and see if it works with that?

Thank you Matt you are a hero - I had tried MSN and control panel “scanners and cameras”, and even the annoying Dell webcam cr**ware - nothing. However, had not thought of giving Skype a go - it worked! Marvelous - now I can sit and peer at myself typing and puzzle over PB’s decision not to provide any software on the BG45 to run the webcam. I suppose the converse of the decision to provide intrusive bluetooth software and no bluetooth! Now for the hdd. Thank you once again.

Good video Matt… was surprised when you mixed the 2GB and 1GB DIMs though… how is the laptop running with mismatched? I am about to order my upgrade so would be great if you could let me know.

RAM will only run as fast as the fastest DIMM. Its fair to say that I did no research before purchasing my 2GB upgrade (in fact I may of had it laying around I can’t remember now). Mixing 1GB and 2GB DIMMs is fine. If you want to put a 2 x 2GB’s in go ahead its cheap enough!
